Repair Guide
A refrigerator that won't cool puts your food at risk fast, so it pays to diagnose it quickly. Some causes are simple fixes; others - like a sealed-system leak - need a certified technician. Here's how to tell them apart.
A fridge that drifts even a few degrees warm pushes food into the 40°F+ zone where bacteria multiply, so a cooling fault is a food-safety issue as much as a repair one. A struggling refrigerator also runs its compressor almost non-stop, which spikes your power bill and shortens the life of the single most expensive part in the appliance. The sooner the cause is found, the more food - and money - you save.
Confirm the fridge is set to about 37°F (3°C) and the freezer to 0°F (-18°C). A bumped dial or a recently changed setting is a surprisingly common culprit.
Cold air moves from the freezer into the fridge through vents. Packing food tightly against them blocks that airflow - leave a gap so air can circulate.
Dust and pet hair on the coils (underneath or behind the fridge) stop it from shedding heat, so it runs warm and works overtime. Unplug and vacuum the coils every 6-12 months.
If a fan motor seizes, the fridge can't move cold air. A freezer that's cold while the fridge is warm is a classic sign of an evaporator-fan or defrost fault - this needs service.
A cracked or loose door seal lets warm air leak in and forces the compressor to run constantly. Test it by closing the door on a dollar bill - if it slides out easily, the gasket needs replacing.
If the coils are clean and fans run but it still won't cool, the refrigerant sealed system or compressor may have failed. These require EPA-certified diagnosis and repair.
If the setting is right, the coils are clean and the fans run but your fridge still won't cool, the problem is likely the defrost system, a fan motor, the door gasket or the sealed system. Our EPA-certified technicians can diagnose refrigerant and compressor faults safely - book before your food spoils.

FAQ
That usually means cold air isn't reaching the fridge compartment - commonly a failed evaporator fan or a defrost-system fault. It needs a technician to confirm and repair.
After cleaning coils or fixing a setting, give it 24 hours to stabilize. If it's still warm after a day, book a repair to avoid losing food.
Often yes - many cooling faults (fans, gaskets, defrost parts) are affordable. As a rule of thumb, repair makes sense if it costs less than about half the price of a comparable new unit.
Refrigerator repairs typically run $150-$400 - a fan motor or door gasket is cheaper, sealed-system work more. You'll have a fixed price before any work, and the diagnostic is free when you proceed.
