Repair Guide
An oven that won't heat - or bakes unevenly - usually comes down to one heating component. Electric and gas ovens fail differently, so the first step is knowing which you have. Here's what to check and when to call a pro.
An oven that heats to the wrong temperature ruins food and wastes energy, and a gas oven that won't light can release unburned gas before the igniter finally catches. Heating faults rarely fix themselves - a weak igniter or a drifting sensor only gets worse - so the oven becomes steadily less reliable. Diagnosing it early keeps a routine element or igniter swap from turning into ruined meals and wasted ingredients.
Look at the lower element while it heats: it should glow bright orange evenly. Blistering, breaks or dark spots mean it's failed and needs replacing - a common, straightforward repair.
On a gas oven, the igniter both opens the gas valve and lights it. A weak igniter glows but never gets hot enough to open the valve, so the oven won't heat. This is the most common gas-oven fault.
Confirm the breaker hasn't tripped, and that the oven isn't set to a timer, delay-bake or Sabbath mode that holds off heating. Clearing the clock/timer often gets it going.
The oven sensor tells the control board the internal temperature. If it drifts, the oven may under- or over-heat, or shut off early. Testing it needs a multimeter - a technician can confirm and replace it.
If elements and igniters check out, the electronic control board or thermostat may be sending the wrong signals. These need professional diagnosis to avoid replacing the wrong part.
If the breaker is on and the oven still won't heat - or heats to the wrong temperature - the element, igniter, temperature sensor or control board likely needs service. Our technicians handle both gas and electric ovens, ranges and cooktops, and give you a flat-rate quote before any work.

FAQ
Most often a failed bake element - watch whether it glows evenly. If the element looks fine, the temperature sensor or control board may be at fault and need testing.
Usually a weak igniter that glows but can't open the gas valve. It's the most common gas-oven fault and a routine repair for a technician.
Give it the full preheat time and make sure it's level. If food still bakes unevenly, the temperature sensor or an element may be failing.
Oven and range repairs typically run $150-$400 - an element or igniter is affordable, a control board higher. We quote a fixed price up front, with the diagnostic free when you go ahead.
